7.5.2018

The Contact Point for Cross-Border Healthcare will be showcasing the Choosehealthcare.fi online service at the HEALTH-SOS social and health care event. The event will be held at the Verkatehdas Arts and Congress Centre in Hämeenlinna on 8–9 May 2018.

TERVE-SOS is an annual meeting place for social and health care operators, bringing together close to a thousand decision-makers and other professionals. The event programme includes seminars subject to a fee as well as free-of-charge programme and showground. You will find the Contact Point for Cross-Border Healthcare in Section 3 of the showground, right next to the main entrance.

You can stop by at our stand for a chat and ask any questions you may have regarding international medical care and also take part in a prize draw.

Freedom of choice also includes the right to travel to another EU country for treatment

The Choosehealthcare.fi online service provides information on patients’ rights to use health services in Finland and abroad. While the debate around the social and health care reform is growing increasingly heated, Choosehealthcare.fi is focused on communicating the current rights of patients. Today, the freedom of choice allows patients not just to choose their health centre in Finland but also includes the right to travel to another EU or EEA country or to Switzerland to receive care. Treatment is also available if you fall ill when travelling.

In addition to patients’ rights, the service also includes a section for health care professionals. This section provides information on the care of patients from abroad, invoicing the costs of their treatment and sending patients abroad for treatment.

The online service has been created as a cooperative project between the Contact Point for Cross-Border Healthcare, the National Institute for Health and Welfare, Kela and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
